“ Ok, so I'm a month and also many many years late with this review. The many many years late is because Newport is somewhere my family went regularly as a family or with friends throughout my childhood and teen years through high school (if its the same owners/family). If it's what Dad and I believe they've changed locations a few times and the most recent is about half a mile from where Dad lives now. I've been going back to So Cal to spend time with him and this trip we decided to stop here for nostalgia's sake. We put our names on the wait list and were seated within 5 minutes. Granted it was at a large round table meant for 8 but still. The....host? manager?...person didn't want us to wait and honestly we didn't mind. It had been a long day and we were hungry. After a bit of discussion Dad and I decided on some old standbys from back in the day that were part of the combo deal (so we also got soup) - beef and broccoli and the spicy clams. I've always loved the spicy clams! We had a couple of options for the soup - a veggie one and one billed as a Vietnamese Catfish(?) Soup. Based on the facial reactions of our sever (which were hilarious) Dad and I went with the Vietnamese fish soup. And honestly it was a good choice - different but full of flavor. I really enjoyed it and Dad, well, Dad loved it. I think he had 3/5s of it at dinner and another fifth the next day! I'm pretty sure I ate most of the clams and we both enjoyed the beef and broccoli. There were a lot of memories for us for sure - the last time we ate at Newport was with my late mother, and we really enjoyed ourselves. I also made a list of items we saw other diners eating that we'll ordering when I'm back in So Cal in the new year. ”

“ The food! So much food! Highly recommend going with a big group because you'll have leftovers for days. The service wasn't anything fancy but quick and considerate. It was pretty cool walking in and seeing all the giant seafood tanks in the front. ”
